Ok – this morning I received an email to test the brand new Seesmic product called Desktop Preview.
Seesmic are the guys that created twhirl – the best twitter desktop client.

On a first look, comparing Desktop Preview with twhirl I was a little disappointed. But then I realized it is a better tool than twhirl ![]()
A bad thing is that the application is pretty slow [or at least this is how I saw it], and has nothing new [or at least I didn't saw anything new]. For the first time users this will be almost the same thing as having 2/3/4 twhirl windows opened.
I think Seesmic wanted to have in Desktop Preview some kind of new tool that has in it twhirl + TweetDeck. And they did it ![]()
Ok – let’s take a quick tour and see the application step by step.
On launch, you are required to enter your twitter username:

After that your password:

Next you will see the main Desktop Preview window:

By clicking one of the items from the left menu you will add a new detached “tab” to the main window containing the replies / private messages / sent messages:

Remember, the blue colored “tab” will be the changing tab.
Ok – so far, as I said – the same thing as having 2/3 twhirl windows opened, the only difference is that all windows are “stuck together” and all of them are from the same account [private twits, sent twits and so on].
I saw that there are some userlists there, but I didn’t managed to work with it. Maybe I was too tired ![]()
Ok – to add some users / friends to a user list you first need to create one:

then, move your cursor on any user’s avatar and click on the small wheel icon:

and now click on “Add to userlist”:

now select the userlist and click ok.
If we click on the userlist [in the left menu] we will see that the user was added:

Ok – I added few more people to this group, so now we have a test group with 4 people in it:

To see the messages written by people from this group we must unclick the USERS button from the group window:
this would be the result:

As we can see, the group window now only has messages written by group members.
I must say that it took me a while to realize how to display these group messages ![]()
Well. that’s all for now about Desktop Preview. Join the list and wait for the install link ![]()
